Explore Ikebana, the traditional art of Japanese flower arranging, through its history, principles, and techniques with Irene Gomulka!

Learn about the essential Ikebana tools and the principles of line, balance, proportion, and the thoughtful placement of branches, flowers, and space. Through guided instruction, participants will create an arrangement that reflects the discipline and timeless beauty of Ikebana, gaining insight into the Japanese aesthetic principles that influenced Isamu Noguchi, the Japanese American artist featured in our current exhibit, Isamu Noguchi: Metal the Mirror. 

The workshop will begin with an introduction to the history of Ikebana and the tools used, followed by a demonstration of a basic traditional Ikebana arrangement. Participants will then make their own traditional beginner level Ikebana arrangement.

Irene Gomulka is an Ikebana instructor and holds the rank of Komon from the Sogetsu School of Ikebana from Tokyo, Japan. She is President of Ikebana International Orlando and the Chairperson of the Sogetsu Orlando Study Group. Irene is an annual Art in Bloom exhibitor at the Orlando Museum of Art.
