Pool Collage | June 8, 2025

This month is the first Free Family Funday of the Pool Party: The Pool in American Art exhibition! With the help of local artist Tasanee Durrett, we will be making paper pool collages inspired by the works of Derrick Adams (pictured right) and David Hockney (pictured on reverse)! We will be using mixed media, or multiple materials, like Durrett does in her artworks to make our own personalized pool floaties and swimmers! We will be capturing the joy and leisure in Adams’ figures and the patterns and colors of the pool in Hockney’s works!

Materials Needed:
Paper (Scrapbook, colored cardstock or construction, etc)
Markers
Scissors
Glue
Yarn
Fabric

Project Steps:
1. Begin by using the stencil to cut out your figure.
2. Use paper and markers to create details like hair and accessories. Using fabric, create the swimsuits just like Derrick Adams does! Glue all of your materials.
3. Draw and cut out the shape of your pool floatie. Use markers to add patterns or details. Glue your figure on top of the floatie.
4. Draw and cut out the shape of your swimming pool.
5. Create the illusion of water with markers or yarn.
6. Make any additional objects like plants or extra pool-side floaties.

 

 

 

Collage de piscina | June 8th, 2025

Este mes es el primer Día Familiar Divertido y Gratuito de la exposición "Fiesta en la Piscina: La Piscina en el Arte Estadounidense". Con la ayuda de la artista local Tasanee Durrett, crearemos collage de papel para piscina inspirados en las obras de Derrick Adams (foto a la derecha) y David Hockney (foto al dorso). Utilizaremos técnicas mixtas o varios materiales, como Durrett en sus obras, para crear nuestros propios flotadores y nadadores personalizados. Capturaremos la alegría y el ocio en las figuras de Adams y los patrones y colores de la piscina en las obras de Hockney.

PASOS DEL PROYECTO:

2. Usa papel y rotuladores para crear detalles como el pelo y los accesorios. Con tela, ¡crea los trajes de baño como Derrick Adams! Pega todos los materiales.
3. Dibuja y recorta la forma de tu flotador. Usa rotuladores para añadir patrones o detalles. Pega tu figura sobre el flotador.
4. Dibuja y recorta la forma de tu piscina.
5. Crea la ilusión de agua con rotuladores o lana.
6. Crea objetos adicionales como plantas o flotadores para la piscina.
