For the first month of our current exhibition, The Original Influencers: Mernet Larsen, Steve Lotz, & Bruce Marsh, we are exploring the artist process of Mernet Larsen! Larsen has a process she calls rorschaching, or finding recognizable forms in abstract images and artworks, to find the subjects of her paintings. This month, we will be following that process and trying to create a narrative from abstract artworks using tracing paper, a material Larsen used to both trace images and create texture by pasting it onto her canvas. This is a good mental exercise to that will inspire you to find meaning in even the most abstract shapes!

Materials Needed:
Tracing paper
Acrylic paint & paint brushes
Canvas/Paper
Collaging materials: magazines, photos, colored papers, etc.
Glue
Scissors

Project Steps:
1. First, find an abstract piece of art that inspires you and use tracing paper to trace the elements you would like to use onto your paper.
2. Try to find recognizable subjects in the traced elements and use paint and collaged materials to bring them to life.
3. Add additional elements that aren’t in the original abstract artwork to help create a narrative.
4. Collaged materials can be cut into varying shapes and pasted with glue.

 

 

 

Durante el primer mes de nuestra exposición, "Los Influencers Originales: Mernet Larsen, Steve Lotz y Bruce Marsh", exploramos el proceso artístico de Mernet Larsen. Larsen utiliza un proceso que ella llama "rorschaching", o la búsqueda de formas reconocibles en imágenes y obras de arte abstractas, para encontrar los temas de sus pinturas. Este mes, seguiremos este proceso e intentaremos crear una narrativa a partir de obras de arte abstractas utilizando papel de calco, un material que Larsen utilizaba tanto para calcar imágenes como para crear textura al pegarlo sobre su lienzo. ¡Este es un buen ejercicio mental que te inspirará a encontrar significado incluso en las formas más abstractas!

MATERIALES:

Papel de calco
Pintura acrílica y pinceles
Lienzo/Papel
Materiales para collage: revistas, fotos, papeles de colores, etc.
Pegamento
Tijeras

PASOS DEL PROYECTO:

1. Primero, busca una obra de arte abstracta que te inspire y usa papel vegetal para calcar los elementos que te gustaría usar.
2. Intenta encontrar temas reconocibles en los elementos calcados y usa pintura y materiales de collage para darles vida.
3. Agrega elementos adicionales que no estén en la obra abstracta original para ayudar a crear una narrativa.
4. Los materiales de collage se pueden recortar en diferentes formas y pegar con pegamento.
