 Clementine Hunter's

This month’s project will be inspired by the works of Louisiana artist, Clementine Hunter! As a self-taught artist, Clementine did not study art in school or learn from another artist. She also did not begin making art until she was in her 50s, creating between five thousand to ten thousand artworks in her lifetime. This month’s project we will be recreating one of those works, her Bouquet of Zinnias, painting in 1940. Zinnias and flowers were a favorite subject of the artist and one that she often revisited in her works!

PROJECT STEPS:

(Optional) Paint your canvas black to have a black background like Clementine Hunter!
Sketch out your bundle of flowers, including the petals, stems, and a bow.
Begin painting with acrylic, using small, short strokes to achieve flower petals. A smaller brush is good for the stems.
Sign your painting in the bottom corner.
