POOL PARTY: THE POOL IN AMERICAN ART (JUNE 6, 2025 - JANUARY 18, 2026)
This exhibition presents over 100 years of painting in the United States by a broad range of professional women artists, highlighting innovative artists who defied traditional social and artistic expectations to succeed in making their lives as artists and supporters of the arts through diverse and evolving careers. They served as city-wide art program supervisors, studied at prestigious academies at home and abroad, worked alongside renowned male painters who received more recognition, supported their families through less respected artistic positions, and none gave up their practice. From the Midwest, to New York, and Miami, with far-reaching global travel, their styles range from Impressionism to Abstraction and from Realism to Surrealism. Each contributed significantly to the art world and our understanding of life, thought, and culture during their time from the early 1900s to the last decade.
Our Collection – Women Artists: A Force in American Art was organized to spotlight some of the talented women whose artwork is part of the Mennello Museum of American Art's permanent collection, a growing strength of our collection and central to our focus on the expansion of women artists in our collection, exhibitions, and programs.
