ISAMU NOGUCHI: METAL THE MIRROR (August 28, 2026 - February 28, 2027 )
On loan from the Art Bridges Foundation, Metal the Mirror is a captivating traveling exhibition showcasing nine of Isamu Noguchi's galvanized steel sculptures from 1982-1983. With their reflective surfaces and evolving patinas, these works delve into themes of duality inspired by Noguchi's personal experience navigating his life as a Japanese American. From 1982 to 1983, Isamu Noguchi created a series of twenty-six galvanized steel sculptures, each referencing his artistic interests and practices throughout his life. These works were dipped into boiling zinc, creating surfaces that resemble rocks in a stream or layers of skin. As the steel patinas, the sculptures will continue to change over time.
Register for the Opening Reception and Lantern Celebration on Friday, August 28th 2026.
“Here where finally opposites come together, I see a surprising purity. Stone is the depth, metal the mirror. They do not conflict...”
