STUDIO ART WORKSHOPS

Next date: Saturday, July 26, 2025 | 01:00 PM to 04:00 PM

Channel inspiration from our latest exhibitions! Pool Party: The Pool in American Art features world class painters and photographers. This summer join Andrew M. Grant and John Baker for two special Saturday workshops exploring the history and techniques of the artists on display.

Oil painting with Andrew Grant | July 26 | 1:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. | $45 Members; $50 Future Members, supplies will be included

Explore painting the eye in oil paint with artist Andrew M. Grant. We will be working from a photo reference in this 3 hour workshop, extracting color, and painting only in shades of grey (grisaille) to create a convincing representation of the eye while analyzing its structure and expression. There will be discussions on drawing, value structure, palette organization and paint application through demonstration and practice.

Andrew Maurice Grant was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica and migrated to the United States at an early age. His first formal art education was received from Crealdé School of Art and further developed by receiving private academic art training in 2011. His art is centered around themes of women represented through figuration. Intrigued by mystery and symbolism, Grant uses the feminine as a way to explore these motifs. In 2021, he had his first solo museum exhibition at the Appleton Museum of Art. Grant has exhibited nationally and has work in many private collections.

Photography with John Baker | August 16 | 1:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M. | $30 Members; $35 Future Members, attendees should bring a camera

Discover the history of photography and compositional framing with artist John Baker in this two hour workshop at the Mennello Museum of American Art. Participants should bring their own cameras or cell phones for activities.

As a faculty member in the Photography Program at Crealdé School of Art, John Baker shares his love and knowledge of film photography in both youth and adult classes, guiding artists young and old in the processes of creating traditional black and white images from capture to print. Baker was the featured artist of a 2019 solo exhibition at the Mennello Museum of American Art titled "Mind/Wealth."  A consummate exhibitor in and supporter of the Central Florida art scene and recipient of many best-in-show awards, Baker holds two B.A. degrees in Arts and Sciences from the University of Central Florida. He has served at Crealdé School of Art in varying capacities for two decades, and has a studio at FAVO in Orlando.
