Paper Leaf Lantern | Free Family Funday | November 2023

This month we will be incorporating actual nature into our craft! We will be creating paper leaf lanterns that will include found objects from nature like leaves and flowers. During our current exhibition, In Nature’s Studio, we see artists who create paintings of vast landscapes, full of natural elements like trees, leaves, and sunlight. We will be taking inspiration from these artist’s admiration of nature by creating our own glowing lanterns! Think of these like a little piece of a landscape, with the leaves and flowers from land and the candlelight inside like the sunshine!

Blow up a balloon to the size you would like your lantern to be. We suggest not blowing it too big, as you may risk popping it.
Coat your balloon with a layer of glue, laying down a single layer of tissue paper on top.
Brush glue onto the layer of tissue paper and place your leaves and flowers.
Brush glue onto the leaves and flowers.
Lay down a second layer of tissue paper over the entire balloon.
Let it dry overnight and then pop and remove the balloon.
Place a battery operated tealight candle inside.
