Animal Diorama | Free Family Funday | July 2024
For the month of July, we will be making animal dioramas inspired by the works of John James Audubon and Mark Messersmith. With the help of local artist Stella Arbelaez, we will be creating drawings of animals of our choosing and then creating their habitat and environment out of art materials. We encourage you to look at the different ways both Audubon and Messersmith depict the animals surroundings and pull inspiration from them!
MATERIALS:
Small, open faced box
Watercolor pencils
Foraged materials: sticks, moss, etc.
Air Dry Clay
Clay sculpting tools
Water Paint
Brushes
Glue

KEY WORDS: Diorama Environmental Art Mixed Media
PROJECT STEPS:
Begin by drawing an animal of your choice onto a piece of paper that is the size of the inside of your box.
Use watercolor pencils, water, and a paint brush to bring your animal to life.
Glue your animal illustration onto the back wall of your box.
Gather materials like moss, sticks, etc. to add to the inside of your diorama. Glue them down.
Use air dry clay to make a sculptural boarder, glueing the clay onto the outer edges of the box.
