This July, we will be creating patterned light boxes so we can take home our very own Anila Quayyum Agha-inspired cube! These boxes are decorated with patterns and lit from the inside just like Crossing Boundaries (Red Cube)! While decorating our boxes, we will be incorporating many different patterns. Some patterns incorporate natural elements like flowers and vines. These are called arabesque patterns. Other patterns can use shapes like stars, squares, and circles. Those are called geometric. We will be combining and applying these patterns to create an illuminating cube that extends these patterns beyond through the use of light and shadow!
MATERIALS
Cardboard Box Patterned Hole Punchers Scissors or Xacto Knife Tape and/or Glue Markers Battery Operated Light
PROJECT STEPS: Cut large squares into the sides of your box, leaving room on the sides. Line the square openings with wax paper, taping it on the inside. Cut paper to be larger than the square openings. Begin hole punching your paper to desired design. Optional: color your paper with markers to include color on your box! Dot glue on each end of your paper, attaching it to the outside of the box (not the wax paper). Attach your paper to fill up each panel of the box! Fill with a battery powered light!
