This month, we are exploring a new medium called gouache! Occasionally used by Sally Michel in her works, gouache paint can be wet with water like watercolor paints and is more opaque like acrylic paint. We encourage you to create landscape paintings using gouache like Sally Michel did in Untitled (Two Men at Seashore)! When creating a landscape, remember to include a foreground, middleground, and background (see reverse side for example) to create depth! When experimenting with gouache, try using different amounts of water to thin your paint. With more water, you can achieve the look of watercolor. With less water, you get a more opaque result. Materials Needed: Gouache Paint Paint brushes Paint Palette Water Watercolor or Mixed Media Paper Project Steps: 1. When using gouache, a small amount of paint can go a long way. Dispense the colors of your choice onto your palette, along with white and black for mixing. 2. Experiment mixing the paints with small amounts of water on your palette to thin them out. 3. You can apply clean water onto your paper and then a small amount of paint to create what is called a wash, or a thin, light colored layer of paint. This is great for backgrounds.
