For the month of January, we will be making our own artist volumes using a very easy bookbinding method. These volumes will be a place where you can display your art, photographs, sketches, or anything that you feel represents you! Similarly to how Will Wilson encouraged his sitters to be photographed in a way that best represented themselves (whether that was through the items they brought, their poses, or their titles), we encourage you to make your artist volume a place where you can express yourself! This idea of book volumes is also inspired by Edward Curtis's 20 volume series of his documentation of Indigenous people in the early 1900s!
MATERIALSCardstock paper Hole Puncher Ribbon/String Collage Materials (Magazine & photo clippings, glue, etc) Paints and/or Markers
PROJECT STEPS: Cut 8.5 x 11 sheets of cardstock in half. Hole punch every sheet on the far left side, making sure they align with each other. Tie string or ribbon through each of the holes to secure the pages together. Don't make the ties too tight! Test that you can flip each page. Decorate the front cover using collage materials or paints and markers. Fill the inside with your creations!
