From 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM on the last Friday of August, the museum is open late til 8! Join us for an educational lecture on the colonial history and present effects of the Pakistan and India Partition from scholar Amrita Gosh.

August 1947 marks the Partition of the Indian subcontinent after which the two countries of India and Pakistan attained independence from British colonialism and became independent nation-states. The catastrophic event of Partition is the largest forced migration in human history. In this talk, Amrita Ghosh focuses on the notion of memory and how looking back creates certain kinds of effects in nostalgia and solidarity. Ghosh focuses on some recent art and discusses how certain forms of remembrance can be a resistant act.
